Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State, at the flag off the electronic tax payment campaign on Tuesday, has urged ‘Lagosians’ to form the habit of paying their taxes.

The governor, at the event, also announced the approval of the construction of 285 new road projects in the state.

The Lagos State government will construct the roads and other projects across the 20 Local Governments Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas of the state.

Confirming the development, the Lagos Mentropolitan Area Transport Authority said some of the projects approved for construction by the governor are four new bus termini in Agege, Ojota, Ajah and NAHCO near the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja, as well as 100 modern bus shelters on major public transport corridors in the state.

Speaking on the approved 285 roads construction, Special Adviser to the Governor on Community and Communications, Mr. Akeem Sulaimon, said during a stakeholders’ meeting with Executives of Community Development Associations, CDAs in Ikeja, that the projects excluded the 181 roads earlier approved by the governor.

According to Sulaimon, the governor was interested in taking development to the grassroots, hence communities in the 57 councils would be assisted in executing self-help projects.

He said about four to five self-help projects would be executed in each of the 57 councils across the state.

Sulaimon said: “The projects will be funded by the state government. The projects embarked upon by the CDAs and the CDCs are complementary projects because the funds used in constructing the projects were contributed by the residents and the projects include construction of roads, streetlights and others. These projects will ease life of the residents.”

Explaining further, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Community Affairs, Tajudeen Quadri, said there were about 3,900 CDAs and 57 Community Development Committees, CDCs, in the state.

According to him, “Assisting the communities to execute a minimum of four self-help projects will be beneficiary to the people at the grassroots.”
