Ahead of the December 10 rerun National and State Assembly election, plans have been uncovered of how a former governor of the state, Mr. Rotimi Ameachi, and senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Magnus Abe, have concluded arrangement to station fake policemen and thugs as poll monitors.
Findings indicate that Ameachi and Abe had already succeeded in registering spurious groups as monitors and observers for the re-run elections.
The aim of the fake policemen and monitors is “to use these so-called monitors as a cover to bring in thugs and guns,” a source in the know of the plot told our correspondent in confidence.
The thugs are mainly from Edo and Imo states with the aim to disrupt the peaceful conduct of the elections, in order for the APC to justify its claim of insecurity.
The source said the people of the state have recognized these thugs in their midst and are now willing to assist the security agencies with useful information about their proposed mode of operation.
“Their aim is to cause confusion and mayhem and force INEC to cancel election results especially where they are not popular.
“The APC is importing these thugs so that they can also be used as fake police and soldiers to rig election. We heard that fake police and soldiers’ uniforms have been provided for them to perpetrate the evil act.”
Weeks ago Rivers Police busted a syndicate involved in the printing of fake result sheets purportedly to be used in the rescheduled rerun elections in the state.
A prominent member of the APC from Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area, who is the director of the firm claimed that the printing contract was given to him by an APC leader and former Commissioner for Agriculture under Rotimi Amaechi.
Items recovered by the police at the printing press included state-of-the-art printing machine and computers. The police also recovered INEC Result Sheets serial number booklets, which the printer used to authenticate the result sheets.
