Anambra Bans ‘Drinking Of Garri’

Anambra State Government is leaving no stone unturned to ensure her citizens are protected from disastrous and harmful diseases.

To this effect, the Anambra government has banned the drinking of garri as part of measures to prevent the spread of the dreaded Lassa fever to the state.

Dr Joe Akabuike, the state Commissioner for Health made this announcement while educating Anambra residents on measures to prevent the disease that is gradually spreading across the country.

“The garri you see spread along the highway while you’re travelling is very risky to consume, especially when you drink it. It is better and surer consuming the ones you prepared yourself. We are by this enlightenment prohibiting the drinking of garri in the state,” Dr Akabuike said.

He also advised the residents to be conscious of their environments and hygiene as their contributions to the efforts being made to curb the resurgence of the disease in the state.

“Like any other form of the disease, good hygiene practices and taking precautions over all forms of symptoms among family members and friends will go a long way to curb the spread of diseases.

“Hand washing remains an effective way of preventing diseases. Families, as well as corporate organisations, should re-adopt the use of tip taps and hand sanitisers placed in public places.”

Recall that last week, Lassa Fever claimed the lives of two resident doctors in Ebonyi state and just on Sunday another medical doctor died in Edo state from the disease.
