Anambra Polls: Andy Uba Leads 40 Senators To Pick APC Ticket

Senator Andy Uba on Wednesday led no fewer than 40 senators to the national secretariat of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Anambra State to pick up his nomination form for the states party primaries.

Uba, who represents Anambra South senatorial district in the 8th Senate, indicated his interest to run for the state’s 2017 gubernatorial race on the platform of the APC months back.

Among the senators present at the event were Senator Shehu Sani, Senator John Enoh, Senator Monsurat Sunmonu and Senator Dino Melaye.

Others are Senator Bayero Nafada, Senator Francis Alikemena and Senator Uche Ekwunife.

Mr. Uba was given his form by the organizing secretary of the APC, Senator Osita Izunaso, who advised the politician to avoid violence ahead of the party primaries.

Speaking at the event in the presence of the National Chairman of the APC, John Oyegun, the senator expressed confidence he was going to win the primaries and carry the APC flag at the gubernatorial election in November.

He also used the opportunity to dispel rumours that he is about decamping to the Peoples Democratic Party, following media reports that he was considering returning to the major opposition party following the Supreme Court judgement affirming Ahmed Makarfi as the National Chairman of the PDP.

While joining the APC in February, Mr. Uba said during a press conference that his decision was spurred by the idea of the party and some of the personalities in the change party.

“We are 40 senators including myself 41 of us, we are here to pick up my nomination form for the governorship of Anambra state which is for November 18, 2017. That is why I am here.

“If you look at all of us that are running, who has the best chance? Who has the experience? I have been a governor in Anambra state before, two, I have been senator two times. I have my structure in the state. I don’t see why I can win the election.

“Those that are running, I have not heard anything they have done, they have not won election and they are not prepared to win election. We need somebody with capacity and i know that we have that capacity to remove the sitting governor,” Senator Uba said.
