Another ‘475 Pump-Action Riffles’ Impounded At Tin Can Port

Customs at Nigeria’s Tin Can port have impounded another container reportedly loaded with 475 pump-action rifles, barely one week after uncovering 1,100 rifles smuggled into the country.

The arms were said to have been smuggled in by same syndicate that imported the 1,100 rifles.

“The container is owned by the same importer of the 1,100 guns. After a detailed profiling of the importer ordered by the Area Controller, it was discovered that he still has another container inside the port; so they fished it out.

“But I don’t know why they are hiding the identity of the importer.. It could even be the government themselves importing these weapons.” a source told Vanguard.

Responding to inquiries, the Customs National Public Relations Officer, Joseph Attah, said of the new discovery:

“Let’s not speculate about arms, please. A container is being suspected and examination will reveal whatever is inside,” he pleaded.

Meanwhile Daily Post has quoted another source as saying the Tin-Can Island Command gave the container number carrying the newly intercepted arms as: CMAU189817/8.
