Rev. Fr. Gospel .J. Inalegwu, a popular Catholic priest in Kano State, Nigeria, has dumped the priesthood.

The entire Catholic Diocese of Kano was in shock after the Reverend Father tendered his resignation letter to the Bishop of the Diocese, Most Rev. John Namawzah Niyiring.

He was inaugurated as Catholic father in the state in 2013.

As reported by SUN, Inalegwu had since traveled out of the state with all his belongings.

When contacted, the Communications Director, Kano Diocese, Father Augustine Nnadi declined comment on the matter.

On his part, His Lordship, Most Rev. John Namawzah Niyiring confirmed the incident but said, “Priests do not resign as they do in the public service, but are laicized.”.

Asked if he had tried to talk to the priest, Niyiring said: “Yes I did that. I had some discussions with him to try to persuade him not to do what he is doing. I think he probably wants something else.”

“Long before his kidnap saga, he had voiced out his desire to do what he did. And we have a record of that,” he said

The WHISTLER recalls that Reverend Father Patrick Edet of the Catholic Diocese of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, had in August, 2017 dumped the priesthood on a live radio programme.
