Arik Air Staff Protest Non-Payment Of Salaries

There is an ongoing protest at the domestic terminal of the Murtala Muhammed airport staged by staff of Nigeria’s largest airline, Arik, over non-payment of salaries.

The aggrieved protesters who displayed placards containing messages communicating their grievances, lamented that the airline failed to pay the seven months salary owed workers.

They further stated that the airline engaged in other anti-labour practices, hence the need for the indefinite strike action.

Some of the inscriptions on the placards read, ‘a disgruntled worker is an accident waiting to happen’, ‘Arik owes staff 7 month salaries, default in taxes and other statutory deduction’.

Other Staff danced to anti-establishment songs by the late Afrobeat musician, Fela Kuti.

One of the protesters who spoke to newsmen said, “We want them to pay us our salaries. They are owing us for seven months”
