Army Arrests Suspected Militants in Niger Delta

The Nigerian army, on Monday, announced that it had arrested some suspected members of militant group, Niger Delta Avengers.

The group had in recent weeks blown up some major oil pipeline in the restive Niger Delta Region

The Avengers are fighting for a greater share of oil profits, an end to pollution and independence for the swampy southern region.

Spokesperson of the Army, Brig-Gen Rabe Abubakar, in a statement issued to newsmen, said that investigations are ongoing.

He further assured that the military will continue to safe guard the oil pipelines, lives and properties in the region.

Abubakar said, “This is to confirm the arrest of some suspected members of Niger Delta Avengers. Investigation is currently on going.

“Military will continue to do its best to guard strategic facilities and provide security to lives and property”.

“We urge community and traditional rulers and patriotic citizens to cooperate with us in our efforts to get rid of criminals in our great country.”
