Tension is mounting in Zaria, Kaduna State as there are claims that the Nigeria military has killed, Sayyid Aliy, the son of Ibrahim El Zak Zaky alongside his wife, Malama Zeenat Ibraheem, the spokesperson, Ibrahim Usman as well as scores of Shiia followers.
The military clampdown is coming amidst conflicting narratives of events that happened on Saturday between the convoy of Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Yukur Buratai and some sect members along the Zaria-Kano Highway.
While the sect claims that it was nesting a flag to celebrate the new month and birth of Prophet Muhammad son in Zaria, the army authorities alleged that the Shiia attacked the convoy of the chief of army staff while on his way to pay homage on the Emir of Zazzau and attend the passing out parade of 73 regular recruits intake of depot Nigerian army, Zaria.
The army responded with live fire and killed some of the adherents of the sect and took their corpses away.
The latest development has frayed nerves with protests reported in Bauchi, Kano while road users are weary of their safety.
