Arsenal Fans Fume As Mike Dean Set To Officiate North London Derby Against Tottenham

Arsenal fans are not happy with Mike Dean’s announcement as the referee for this Saturday’s North London derby against Tottenham.

The 49-year-old will be assisted by Ian Hussin and Eddie Smart for the Emirates Stadium clash on November 18, with Kevin Friend the fourth official.

Dean has taken charge of the derby clash on six previous occasions from 2007 to 2014, in which time he has handed out two red cards and 10 yellows.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has been critical of the referee in the past, calling him ‘naive’ in Arsenal’s 2-0 defeat to Chelsea in 2015.

Arsenal fans have not always enjoyed the best of relationships with Dean, and in September 2015 disgruntled supporters set up a petition to ban him from refereeing future Gunners games that received in excess of 100,000 signatures.

One user on Twitter said: ‘Mike Dean to officiate the NLD, congratulations Spurs’, while another posted a video of him ‘celebrating’ a Tottenham goal.

This will be Dean’s ninth Premier League match this season, having already issued 29 yellow cards and one red card.
