Baru Hastens Contractors To Finalise Agreements On Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano Gas Pipeline Project

- As Buhari Expected To Sign Agreements During China Visit

The Group Managing Director, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr Maikanti Baru, has urged the team in charge of the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) gas pipeline to speedily finalise its agreements for signing by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday, Dr Baru urged the Bank of China and the China Export and Credit Insurance Corporation (SINOSURE) to finalise their agreements on time to enable President Buhari assent to it during his next state visit to China.

The NNPC GMD said this during the ongoing meeting involving Engineering Procurement Construction contractors and possible lenders in Dubai.

Meanwhile, the NNPC had earlier clarified that the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) gas pipeline project will progress under the original concept of 100 per cent contractor financing model as planned.

“We wish to further clarify that part of the approvals obtained from the Federal Government is to fund the implementation of the project front-end activities tagged “Early Works” in order to continue to move the project forward pending the conclusion of the financing negotiations,’’ said the Corporation in a statement by its spokesman, Mr Ndu Ughamadu.

The NNPC reiterated its committed to ensuring the actualisation of the AKK project in line with the Buhari administration’s goal to improve gas supply across the country.

Present at the meeting are NNPC’s Group General Manager, Crude Oil marketing, Mallam Mele Kyari and Mr Bala Wunti, the Group General Manager, Corporate Planning and Strategy, in the NNPC.

Others present at the meeting are representatives of the different companies and stakeholders involved in the AKK project.
