Bayern Munich Announce Jupp Heynckes As New Coach

German top flight Football club, Bayern Munich confirmed Friday that legendary German coach, Jupp Heynckes, will take over as manager until the end of the season, replacing the sacked Carlos Ancelotti.

“There is a strong relationship of trust between Jupp Heynckes and FC Bayern,” said club chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge of the coach who has already led Bayern three times in the past, adding: “He is at the moment the ideal coach for Bayern.”

Heynckes, who retired four years ago, turned the Bavarians into one of Europe’s most dominant teams, culminating in the treble-winning side of 2013, and has been drafted in on a short-term deal.

The 72-year-old veteran manager had on Thursday confirmed to Rheinische Post, a local paper near his home that Bayern president Uli Hoeness and chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge have asked him to return.

Speaking to the Bayern’s official website following Friday’s announcement, Heynckes explained his decision to cut short his retirement and return to the Bayern for the Fourth time. ‘I would not have returned to any other club in the world, but Bayern Munich is a labour of love for me,’ he said.

Heynckes, who will take his first training session on Monday October 9, will be joined by assistants Hermann Garland and Peter Harmann.

“My coaching staff and I will now do everything possible to bring successful football back, and I am looking forward to this task,’ the new coach said.

“There is great trust between Jupp Heynckes and Bayern,’ said Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

“The conversations that Uli Hoeness, Hasan Salihamidzic and I have had showed that again. We are very grateful Jupp agreed to return as head coach. At present he is the ideal coach for Bayern,” he added.

A 3-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League led the club to sack Ancelotti last month.

Heynckes previously coached Bayern from 1987 to 1991, briefly in 2009 and then between 2011 and 2013.
