Beach Soccer W/Cup: U.S Denies 7 Nigerian Players Visas

The United States embassy in Nigeria, on Wednesday, denied visa application of seven of the twelve players to represent Nigeria at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2017.

The Cable reports that the US embassy issued visas to five of the twelve Sand Eagles players and four officials.

The five players whose applications were approved include: Captain Olawale Isiaka, Ibenegbu Ikechukwu, Godspower Igudia, Suleiman Ogodo and Paul Danjuma.

One of the players denied is Abu Azeez who was also denied the Portuguese visa to attend the 2011 World Cup.

All twelve players are expected to be in the Bahamas to represent Nigeria as one of the two African countries to participate in the tournament.

Reacting to this development, the Spokesman of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF, Ademola Olajire said the glass house will write a protest letter to FIFA, as the team requires a full squad to be able to participate in the tournament.

“We are poised to protest the Visa denial. We will write to FIFA on the development,” he said.

This will be the 9th edition of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup. The competition will be staged in Bahamas from Thursday 27 April, to Sunday 7 May, 2017.
