Orji Uzor Kalu has described the marginalisation claim by the Igbo ethnic group as one that is self Inflicted.

Kalu, while reacting to the proscription of activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Nigeria’s South East, said if eventually Biafra is actualised, Igbo would be at a disadvantage.

The former Abia state governor, in an interview with journalists on Saturday, also claimed Ndi Igbo “at one time or the other” have been marginalsed by their own.

He therefore called on people from the South-East region to abandone the Biafra struggle.

Kalu made the call on the sideline of the 2017 Annual Youth Summit organised by Junior Chamber International, Ikoyi, Lagos State.

“Ndi Igbo should stop boxing themselves to a corner. We are serious contenders and members of the entity called Nigeria,” he said.

“The struggle for Biafra is not a serious one. Those agitating for the break-up of Nigeria should stop.

“Ndi Igbo should rather struggle for equity and justice so that they can feel safe to live and work in any part of the country.

“It is true that Ndi Igbo are marginalised but even our own people have at one time or the other also marginalised us‎,” said Kalu.
