Blow For Dino Melaye As He Loses ‘Senator Of The Year Award’

Amid his recall process, Senator Dino Melaye has lost a proposed ‘Senator of The Year Award’ by the Senate Press Corps.
This comes as the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has cancelled the proposed award ceremony, describing it as “Illegal”.

According to the NUJ, the Senate Press Corps is not recognised under its constitution, hence cannot issue any award to Melaye and 14 other senators.

“The Union dissociates itself from the so-called conferment as it did not comply with the provision of the Constitution of NUJ on such issues, hence the nullification of the award,” said the National President of NUJ, Abdulwaheed Odusile.

Similarly, the Chairman of FCT Council of the Union, Ella Abech, faulted moves by the press corps to award the lawmakers.

“The press corps is not a legitimate organ to decide who to give awards to,” Abech said.
