Boko Haram Attacks Girls’ School In Yobe

Suspected Boko Haram militants have attacked Government Girls Secondary School, Dapchi, in Burasari local government area of Yobe state.

The latest attack comes days after Chief of Army Staff; Tukur Buratai, placed a N3 million bounty on Abubakar Shekau, factional leader of the Boko Haram sect.

Buratai had also charged Nigerian troops to capture Shekau alive or dead.

A teacher in the school that was attacked, who confirmed the attack, said the insurgents came into the school environment through the eastern part of the town at about 7pm on Monday.

“They shot sporadically and forced the school food store opened. We (staff) and the students ran into the bush for safety”, the teacher was quoted as saying by the Daily Trust..

When asked, if the sect abducted the girls, the teacher said it was too early to comment on it.

“For now, we can’t say anything until all the students returned tomorrow morning”, he said

Meanwhile, a resident in the community, Alhaji Ibrahim, said the attackers stormed the village in six Hilux vans through the eastern part while shooting sporadically.

“They force some shops opened and stole food items. We are yet to know if there are casualties because, everyone in the town has scampered for safety. Some fled to bush, others into their homes.

“They also attacked military location at the town entrance bridge. But we cannot tell if there is casualties there” he added.

The Commissioner of Police, Yobe State command, Abdulmaliki Sunmonu confirmed the attack, saying security operatives have been mobilized to the location.

Recall that in April 2014, the sect abducted 276 girls from the Government Secondary School in the town of Chibok in Borno State.
