The anti-graft agency claimed Mr. Chukwuma was arrested for refusing to respond to an invitation by the Commission, after initially being granted administrative bail by the Commission, while his surety could also not be found.

“A well-known industrialist, Chief Innocent Chukwuma, popularly known by his company’s name, INNOSON, has been arrested by the EFCC. He was picked up at about 11am at his Savage Crescent, GRA Enugu residence on Tuesday, December 19, 2017,” a statement by EFCC Spokesman Wilson Uwujaren read.

“His arrest followed his refusal to honour invitation by the commission having earlier jumped an administrative bail granted him in a case being investigated by the Capital Market and Insurance Fraud Unit of the commission’s Lagos office.

“Chukwuma, rather than honour the invitation by the EFCC, mobilised six truckloads of thugs pretending to be staff of his company to his residence, where they manhandled EFCC operatives.

“It took reinforcement from the Enugu office of the EFCC to arrest the industrialist who is currently being grilled by a team of investigators.”

However, a series of tweets by Innoson on Tuesday indicate that Chukwuma’s arrest stemmed from a disagreement between their CEO and the Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB).

The automobile company is accusing the EFCC of not sending a prior invitation to its Chief Executive before storming his residence to arrest him

The tweets by Innosson reads:

“GTB vs Innoson “illegal Arrest” Hundreds of factory workers from Innoson factory Emene Enugu protests the illegal bundling of Innoson to Lagos by EFCC organised by GTB,” the company said.

“Like a commando style, GTB uses EFFC to storm Innoson Enugu Residential Home to bundle him to Lagos like a common criminal without any prior invitation.

“Armed policemen firing live bullets and gunshots inside Innoson residence. Tens of factory workers critically wounded.

Chief Chukwuma and his brother, Charles Chukwuma are being investigated by the Insurance and Capital Market Fraud Section of the EFCC over matters bordering on forgery.
