British Parliament Hears Motion For Biafra Republic

The British House of Commons has listened to an Early day motion 808 for Biafra Independence.

The motion was tabled on Thursday, December 3 by primary sponsor, Tom Elliott of the Ulster Unionist Party representing Fermanagh and South Tyrone constituency and co-sponsored by Danny Kinahan also of the same party but representing South Antrim.

According to the information posted on the official website of the British Parliament, www.parliament.uk, the sponsors want the House to recognise the calls for Biafra independence.

The motion reads: “That this House recognises the calls for the independence of territories that constituted the Biafran Republic; acknowledges the Biafran issue could be improved with the co-operation of the Nigerian government by offering a referendum; and urges the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to use its diplomatic strength to assist in the resolution of this matter.”

The motion is expected to come for debate sometime early January.
