Buhari Absent At FEC Emergency Meeting

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, which is usually chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari, took a new turn today as his deputy, Yemi Osinbajo is currently presiding.

This development came as a surprise because the emergency meeting was summoned by the president on Thursday.

Present at the meeting were the 36 ministers, the Vice President, and the Secretary to the State Government, SGF.

Apart from cabinet members, some heads of agencies and parastatals as well as several presidential aides are also attending the meeting.

The meeting started at exactly 11.10am when Osinbajo arrived the Council Chambers of the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Buhari is believed to be in the country, but it is not yet clear why the meeting is being chaired by Osinbajo.

As soon as the meeting started, State House correspondents were asked to vacate the Council Chambers for the “crucial budget session” summoned to review the details of the 2016 Appropriation Bill which was transmitted to the president yesterday.
