Buhari appoints Kachikwu as GMD NNPC and Danbatta as CE of NCC

President Muhammadu Buhari has sacked The Group Managing Director (GMD) of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr. Joseph Dawha.

The sacked GMD will be replaced by Emmanuel Kachikwu, executive vice-chairman of ExxonMobil Africa.

This was contained in a press statement released by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity. Mr. Femi Adesina.

There has been various calls from different quarters for the reform of NNPC. An organization responsible for managing Nigeria’s petroleum resources. In recent time, NNPC has been accused of wastage, corruption and mismanagement of Nigeria’s oil revenues.

The statement also announced the appointment of Prof. Umaru Danbatta as the new Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive of the Nigerian Communications Commission.

Prof. Danbatta, holds a Doctorate degree in Electronic Engineering, takes over from Dr. Eugene Juwah, whose tenure expired on July 29, 2015.

Before his new appointment, Danbatta occupied different positions in leadership capacities. He was Head of Department, Dean of Faculty; Director, Centre for Information Technology; Deputy Vice Chancellor and Acting Vice Chancellor, and Chairman, Nigerian Society of Engineers, Kano Branch.
