Buhari Arrives Benue

President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived Benue state on a one-day working visit to the North Central state.

According to the Presidency, Mr Buhari’s visit is to commiserate with the government and people of the state over the New Year’s Day attack in the state.

Recall that on January 1, 2018, suspected Fulani herdsmen attacked two communities in Benue, killing over 73 people, including women and children

The President will also meet with Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom at the government House, an he is expected back to Abuja later today (Monday).

The visit is part of the President’s ‘condolence tour’ of states affected by recent terrorist attacks, criminal activities and communal clashes in 2018. He had earlier visited Taraba and Plateau states and expected to travel to Yobe, Zamfara and Rivers states, in the coming days.

Benue State has been at the centre of the Fulani Herdsmen crisis, recording more than 120 deaths in 2018 alone.

The state government on Friday suspended the mass burial of fresh victims of suspected herdsmen attack in the state.

No fewer than 24 persons, mostly women and children, were killed in a fresh crisis last week at Omusu Edimoga in the Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State.
