President Muhammadu Buhari has re-written the Nigerian Senate, seeking the confirmation of Ibrahim Magu, as the substantive chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

This was contained in a letter sent to Senate President Bukola Saraki on Sunday night, which will be read at tomorrow, Tuesday’s plenary.

Recall that the Senate, in December, rejected Magu’s nomination as chairman, citing the corruption allegations levelled against him by the Department of State Services (DSS).

The DSS had accused Magu of flying first class against government regulations, living in a house paid for by “corrupt” businessman and being in possession of classified documents 10 years ago, allegations that have since been denied by Magu.

President Buhari had ordered the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN) to investigate the allegations against Magu and other federal government officials.

It however remains unclear whether Malami’s report cleared Magu of any wrongdoing.
