Buhari Not Responsible For Herdsmen Killing – Ortom

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has said that President Muhammadu Buhari is not to be blamed for the incessant killings in the state.

This is coming five days after Professor Wole Soyinka, blamed the President for the killings in Benue state while on a courtesy visit to Ortom stating that if Buhari had “gone to the site of the first atrocity and said this would not be tolerated and I want this place sanitized by the military” the series of killings in the state would have stopped.

Speaking with journalists on Tuesday, Ortom said the farmers-herders crisis existed before the current administration and it would be unfair to link the president to it.

“One thing I want you to know is that the herdsmen-farmers clashes predates this government, so it will be a fallacy to conclude that herdsmen killings in the state is linked to President Buhari.’’ Ortom said.

He further said there are reasonable herdsmen who still live in peace with their neighbours in the state, adding that “real enemy” is Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore.

“There are reasonable Fulani herdsmen that have come out to adopt the ranching which we have promulgated since last year as the last resort to solve this problem. For us, we have identified Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore has been responsible for the ongoing killing in the state. Even the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN have agreed with us that ranching is the best way to go”.
