Buhari Released N22bn To NDDC-Semenitari

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has received the sum of N22 billion from the federal government between June and December 2015, for the development of the commission, the acting Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mrs Ibim Semenitari has said.

Semenitari, who made the disclosure during a courtesy visit by members of the Bayelsa State executive of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the commission’s headquarters in Port Harcourt on Monday, further disclosed that the sum is in addition to the N15 billion released to the region in the first half of last year.

She noted that President Muhammadu Buhari had mandated her to quicken the pace of development in the Niger Delta, adding that the president had demonstrated his sincerity in changing the face of the region by increasing the inflow of funds for development purposes.

Semenitari also said the commission would fast-track the completion of the N24.5 billion 27-kilometre Ogbia-Nembe Road in Bayelsa State which it was constructing in partnership with the Shell Development Company (SPDC), stressing that the NDDC was committed to its speedy completion.

Semenitari also assured the Bayelsa APC chieftains that the NDDC would re-activate the construction of the prototype modern hostel at the Niger Delta University in Wilberforce Island, as well as step up work on other major projects that have suffered delays in the past.
