Buhari Says Nigeria’s Unity ‘Settled, Non-Negotiable’ Yet Igbo Marginalised In NNPC Reshuffling – Ohaneze

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo has queried the audacity with which President Muhammadu Buhari said Nigeria’s unity was “settled and non-negotiable” with his alleged display of bias against Igbo in the recent re-organisation at the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

The query comes after the shake-up affected 55 top executives of the NNPC.

President of the Igbo socio-cultural group, John Nwodo, in a statement on Sunday, alleged that people of the south-east were sidelined in the reshuffle.

Nwodo claimed that while the north dominantly benefited from the shake-up, “the south-east were totally ignored, as has always been the case since Buhari administration came to office”

“This brazen disregard, marginalisation and non-compliance with the federal character provisions in our constitution are the causes of lack of confidence which our youth have in our present governance structure,” the statement read.

Nwodo criticized the “consistent and unrepentant disposition of disdain” for the south-east as seen under the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government.

“As long as President Buhari continues to live out his speech abroad that his government will favour those who voted 97 percent for him against those who voted 5% for him so long will the dissatisfaction and unrest in our polity subsist,” Nwodo said.

He therefore advised President Buhari to review the appointments “in the interest of peace, unity and good governance”.
