Buhari Tells Army, ‘Develop New Strategies To Fight Boko Haram’

President Muhammadu Buhari has told the Nigerian Army to come up with new strategies to combat insurgency and other security challenges facing the country.

The President gave the charge on Monday in Ibadan at the opening ceremony of the Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference 2017.

Mr Buhari was represented at the event by the Chief of Defence Staff, Abayomi Olonisakin, further commended the Army for the success recorded against the insurgents.

“The spectacular achievements of the Nigerian Armed Forces against terrorism, insurgency and militancy underscore my earlier position that these existential threats can be faced and defeated with the necessary measures within the ambits of the law,” he said.

The conference hosted by Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, was themed ‘Re-appraising the Nigerian Army’s operational efficiency in containing contemporary national security challenges.’

Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maj. Gen. Ike Nwachukwu, delivered a lecture titled, ‘Safeguarding Nigeria’s unity and sovereignty: A patriotic and constitutional imperative for the Nigerian Army’.

At the event, ten new pilots of the Nigeria Army Aviation were decorated with wings, becoming the first set to complete their pilot training from the NAA.
