Buhari’s Benue Visit Was Disappointing – Gov Ortom

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has expressed regret and disappointment at President Muhammadu Buhari’s recent condolence visit to the state.

Ortom’s media adviser said on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily that President Buhari’s much-anticipated visit to the troubled state made close to no impact as the president allegedly failed to address issues that were burning on the minds of the Benue people.

Tahav Agerzua said the people of Benue expected Buhari to tell them why their brothers and sisters’ killers were yet to be brought to book.

“The President was in Benue but failed to address the situation on ground. Some set of people issued a threat six months back to kill Benue people. These people did not just execute this threat by killing hundreds of people, they also destroyed property worth billions of Naira and displaced over 170,000 people.

“The Benue people were expecting the president to tell them why these people, who issued these threats have not been arrested,” he said.

Agerzua further said the people of Benue care less about Buhari’s query to the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, who was said to have flouted the president’s directive to relocate to the state to quell the killings by herdsmen.

“We are not concerned about the president giving the IG a query, our major concerns are that we have over 170,000 displaced people in our internally displaced persons’ camps.

“The Governor asked the President to come to the aid of the IDPs because the state resources have been overstressed. We are still waiting to hear from the president,” said Ortom’s aide.
