Buratai Insists, Says Boko Haram Remains Technically Defeated

Despite repeated Boko Haram attacks in the North-east, Tukur Buratai, Chief of Army Staff, says the terrorist group remains technically defeated.

The Army Chief made the disclosure while speaking with journalists after a meeting with Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe State, in Damaturu, the state capital.

“They will continue to remain technically defeated and they will never be as strong as they were previously,” he said.

Saturday’s remark makes it the second time the military claims to have “technically” defeated the Boko Haram terrorist group.

In December 2016, the military announced that the insurgents had been defeated and on the run.

However, Boko Haram continued its attacks on civilians, especially in the North-east, the latest, which occurred in July saw the killing of staff of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, and scores of soldiers.
