CAF Champions League: Rangers, Rivers United Handed Tricky Ties

Reigning Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) champions, Enugu Rangers will face Algerian side, Jeunne Sportive Saoura, in the preliminary round of the 2017 CAF Champions League.

Imama Amapakabo’s side will carry Nigeria’s side for the continental competition having emerged as champions in the Nigeria Professional Football League, their first time in 32 years.

The Flying Antelopes will travel to the North African nation for the first leg in February 2017, with the return leg expected to be played one week later at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium, Enugu.

If they go through, the Enugu based side will face Egyptian giants, Zamalek in the first round of the competition.

Meanwhile, fellow Nigerian side Rivers United, who came second in the NPFL last season, face a stein test against 2016 Mali’s Première Division runners-up, AS Real Bamako.

The Port Harcourt club travel to the Stade Modibo Keïta Bamako for the first leg, while the return leg holds at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium.

If Rivers United see off the Malians, they will face El Merrikh of Sudan or Sony Nguema of Guinea in the next round.
