Cameroon Tackles CAF President Over Comment On Country’s Readiness To Host 2019 AFCON

President of the Cameroon Football Federation FECAFOOT, Tombi A Roko Sidiki has reacted with dismay over the Confederation of African Football President’s recent comment that Cameroon is not ready to host the 2019 AFCON.

Ahmad Ahmad, CAF President, declared on Saturday that no site was ready in Cameroon to receive even four countries for the big football event and he suggested alternative hosts would need to be found for the tournament

Mr. Tombi in an official statement expressed concern at the tone of the CAF president’s interview. He wondered if the future inspection team can be impartial given that Ahmad Amad has already taken clear stance regarding Cameroon’s preparedness before the CAF inspection visitation to the country.

“FECAFOOT are particularly preoccupied by the fact these words come before the first CAF inspection team, planned for 20-28 August, has come to Cameroon.

“We would be within our rights to wonder about this inspection visit given the results seem to have already been decided at the highest level of the CAF,” the statement read.

The statement also highlighted Cameroon’s recent successful hosting of the Women’s African Nations Cup last year during which games were staged in two of the venues set to be used in the 2019 competition and that Cameron was served a congratulatory letter by CAF because of successful organisation.

The FECAFOOT President once again expressed the country’s determination to host the competition pointing to the different construction sites and facilities which he assures will be ready before the due date.

5-times CAF champions Cameroon, last staged the continental showcase in 1972 which produced Congo as winners.
