CAN Alleges Plots To Make Islam Nigeria’s Official Religion
The President of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Archbishop Magnus Atilade, has reacted to a rebuttal by the Sultan of Sokoto, Abubakar Sa’ad, who stated that the Muslims had no plots to Islamise the country.
“It is not possible to Islamize Nigeria. We must respect one another and understand the tenets of the two religions,” Abubakar had recently said.
But the Archbishop, while speaking in Lagos insisted that there were plans to Islamise the country, stressing that those who want to “eradicate Christians” were busy planning on how to achieve their sinister aim.

Atilade, therefore, called on Christian organisations to form a synergy and map out strategies on how they could overcome the threat on Christianity.
He said, “As we are seeing in the whole world now, no single church, denomination or organistion, can save the world. We have work to do and we need to be united to achieve a common goal. Individual organisations working alone have not been able to make an impact.
‘’Those who want to eradicate Christianity are very busy, those who are killing Christians and destroying churches in the north are very busy, they are coming up with different plans everyday and we as Christians cannot fold our arms and watch them destroying the church of Jesus Christ.
‘’There must be a way that we are going to react but if we react in a disorganised way, we won’t get the desired goal.

“We are in a very dire situation. I believe and I tell you here that anybody, whoever the person is, that tells you that there is no plan to islamise Nigeria is not saying the truth.
“I believe there is a plan and they are working hard to see how this country accepts Islam as the official religion.
‘’I’m saying this just to reawaken all of us.”
