We Can Arrest Anyone With Or Without A Warrant – EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it can arrest anyone with or without a warrant.

Speaking during a senate hearing on Wednesday, Chile Okoroma, director, legal and prosecution of the EFCC, said the anti-graft agency can intervene in a matter it suspects anything criminal in it.

The senate anti-corruption committee had invited the agency over the arrest of Innocent Chukwuma, chairman of Innoson Group.

The agency was said to have raided Chukwuma’s home, manhandle his wife, before arresting the Innoson boss in December, 2017.

The operatives of the EFCC, who arrested Chukwuma, was also said to have beaten up one of his aides and used tear gas on him.

But speaking today, Okoroma denied the claim, saying the anti-graft agency invited Chukwuma before going to his house.

“We can arrest a person with or without a warrant. I want to correct an impression, EFCC did not invade the residence of Innoson,” he said.

“I want to know the extent of this hearing because this is a case filed on 12th December 2012.”

Asked if the operatives went with a warrant, Okoroma said he would get back to the committee.

Meanwhile, Joseph Mbadugha, representative of Chukwuma, argued that the matter between GTB and Innoson had nothing to do with financial crime.

Mbadugha said the Innoson boss did not commit any illegal transaction.
