CBN Extends BVN Registration For Nigerians In Diaspora

In order to enable bank customers in the Diaspora complete their BVN registration, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Thursday, announced the extension of the deadline for the registration and linkage of the bank verification number.

A circular signed by CBN’s head, banking and payments department, Dipo Fatokun, noted that the deadline had been shifted from January 31, 2016 to June 30, 2016.

He revealed that 30 new registration centres had been established in most major cities abroad to facilitate effective participation.

The bank noted that it had observed through a survey the low percentage of registration of Nigerian Banks’ customers in diaspora which may be attributed to lack of accessibility to registration Centres and unavailability of registration Centres in some cities with large Nigerian populations.

The circular said, “plans are on to deploy more registration Centres for locations with high Nigerian population. Nigerian Banks’ customers are enjoined to seize the opportunity of this extension to register and link their BVN to their bank accounts.”
