Code of Conduct Tribunal Chairman Charged With Taking N10m Bribe

Danladi Umar, the Chairman, Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), has been indicted for taking N10 million bribe from a former Customs official named Rasheed Taiwo.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) charged Umar with accepting the said sum from Taiwo who was facing charges of false assets declaration before the CCT in 2012.

The EFCC, through its prosecutor, Festus Keyamo, charged Umar on two counts of fraud which it said contradict Section 12(1) (a) and (b) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2003.

The CCT Chairman risks 7 years imprisonment should he be found guilty of the charges.

Umar, it would be recalled, had acquitted Senator Bukola Saraki in all the 18 counts of false assets filings levelled against the Senate President.
