Conspiracy: Court remands Cleric, CSO Madonna University
An Enugu North Magistrate Court remanded the chief security officer, Ogbonna Okey and the dean of student affairs Rev. Fr. Isaac Jinga of Madonna University, Enugu campus in prison custody on Tuesday July 14, 2015 for alleged felony and conspiracy to kill two students under their care.
The court is set to reconvene on the case today, Tuesday, July 21, 2015.
The accused persons were arraigned by Enugu police command on a two count-charge. The charge number MEN/87c/2015 brought against them by the State police command, reads:
“That you, Rev. Fr. Isaac Jinga ‘M’, Ogbonna Okey ‘M’ and others at large on 3/2/2015 at Madonna University, Akpugo Campus, Nkanu West Magisterial District holden at Enugu did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit: causing grievous bodily harm and thereby committed an offence, punishable under Sec. 495(a) of the Criminal Code, Cap 30, Vol. II, Laws of Enugu state, 2004.
“That you, Rev. Fr. Isaac Jinga, Ogbonna Okey and others at large on the same date and place, in the aforementioned magisterial district, did with intent to maim, disfigure or disable cause grievous bodily harm to one Stanley Ifeanyi Okoye, by hitting him with iron rod at his neck and all over the body which caused injury him in spinal cord and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 288(a) of the Criminal Code, Cap 30, Vol. II of the laws of Enugu state 2004”
When the charges were read to the understanding of the accused persons, they pleaded not guilty.
Presiding Magistrate Nkemjika Anibueze asked the counsel to the accused persons and the prosecutor to address the court on whether the court was competent and whether the court has powers to look at the charge.
After both the accused counsel and the prosecutor had addressed the court as directed, Magistrate Anibueze ordered that the accused persons be remanded in prison custody, adjourning the case till July 21, 2015 for ruling on whether the court has the power to try the accused persons.
