‘Corrupt’ NASS Members Behind My Non-Confirmation – Magu

Ibrahim Magu, Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, has revealed the alleged reason behind his non-confirmation as the substantive EFCC Chairman by the Nigerian Senate.

Magu, who spoke during a programme titled ‘Question Mark’ on Channels Television, claimed that the Nigerian Senate declined his confirmation as EFCC’s head because the anti-graft agency is investigating some members of the National Assembly.

“There are many people we are investigating who are members of the National Assembly,” Magu said in response to why he was rejected by the upper legislative chamber.

Speaking further, the Acting EFCC Chairman said his non-confirmation by the Senate was an indication that he was doing his job well.

Magu claimed that past chairmen of the Commission who had speedy confirmations by the Senate were not really doing their jobs.

“I feel a lot of encouragement. The fact that I am not confirmed shows that I am working. In the anti-corruption environment, if they rush to confirm you, it means you are not really doing your work properly.

“I am not distracted. Rather, it pushes me; I am encouraged.

The Acting EFCC chairman also denied claims that he is selective in pursuing the Federal Government’s anti-corruption fight.
