Corruption: Buhari remembers Civil Service

President Buhari has shifted his attention to the civil service, this is as a result of his increase worry by the high rate of corruption in that sector which has cost the nation huge amounts of money.

The President demanded all outstanding audit queries be conclusively resolved, which he expects should be concluded within the next 30 days.

The order which was given to the Auditor General of the Federation was conveyed by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Publicity, Mallam Garbu Shehu, said the President was not pleased with the unresolved audit query which was discovered in the civil service report from the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation.

Audit queries which usually eliminates fraud in the civil service by returning all unspent funds to the federal treasury has not been appropriately handled leading to many unresolved cases costing the Nation trillions of naira which was displeasing to the President. The President also warned all civil servants who fail to answer audit queries within 24 hours to be appropriately dealt with.

Mr Garba Shehu also confirmed the President’s commitment in eliminating challenges posed by bureaucracy in the civil service.

“The era of impunity is gone. The President is taking the war on corruption to the civil service. He is not happy that standard operating procedures and financial regulations are no longer being observed as they should.

“President Buhari will ensure that public officials and civil servants in the service of the Federal Government pay a heavy price from now on for violating financial regulations or disregarding audit queries.”

He went ahead and said the President is determined to see strict sanctions on financial perpetrators compared to the last administration where no concrete action was taken, rather probing’s without result and putting unnecessary pressure on auditors.

“On his watch, President Buhari wants to see firm action against those who violate extant financial regulations, not the prevarications and shenanigans that went on in the past in the form of endless probes and public inquiries,” the Presidential spokesman said
