Court Jails Nigerian Education Secretary For Employing SS2 Daughter Into Service

For employing his Secondary School (SS2) teenage daughter, Ms Preye Tom, into the education authority in Delta State, Mr Abayomi Tom Kelekumor has been sentenced to five years in jail by a High Court sitting in the state.

Kelekumor, who was a former Education Secretary in Bomadi LGA in the state, was sentenced to prison for illegally employing his daughter who had not obtained the minimum education requirement for service in the state when he engaged her.

His imprisonment follows the charges preferred against him by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) before Justice Biriki Okolosi of the said court.

According to information ICPC’s website, Mr Kelekumor violated Section 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000, in engaging his teenage daughter into the service.

Justice Okolosi sentenced the former Education Secretary to five years in jail without any option of fine.
