Coutinho Shocks Liverspool FC, Hands In Transfer Request

Philippe Coutinho has submitted a transfer request at English football club, Liverpool as he looks to move to Barcelona.

This development comes as a shock to the English club, just hours after Liverpool’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, released a statement on Friday saying “no offers for Philippe will be considered.”

Merseyside club received the request directly from the player via email on Friday afternoon.

The Reds rejected a second bid from Spanish club giants Barcelona for Coutinho worth up to €100 million on Wednesday and considered the matter closed.

Sky Sports News, which reported the news of the transfer request earlier on Friday, had quoted an unnamed member of 25-yaer-old Brazilian star’s family as saying: “Philippe has tried very hard to find an amicable solution but to no avail.

“He has tremendous love for the club and fans but, like Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez have pointed out in the past, Liverpool does not let its players leave on amicable terms.”

Despite the heightening of tension between player and club, Liverpool’s position is unchanged as they have rejected the players request.

Amid the ongoing efforts from Barcelona to sign the 25-year-old, FSG decided the time was right to make a public declaration.

“We wish to offer clarity as regards our position on a possible transfer of Philippe Coutinho,” read the statement on Liverpool’s website on Friday morning.

“The club’s definitive stance is that no offers for Philippe will be considered and he will remain a member of Liverpool Football Club when the summer window closes.”
