Diego Costa Fires Back At Chelsea, Says He ‘Must Return To Atletico Madrid’

28-year-old Spanish striker Diego Costa has said he will not return to the premier league champions, Chelsea, stating that he “must return to Atletico Madrid”.

Recall that earlier this week the Blues had given the stay-away striker an ultimatum to return to England and make himself available for selection, if he wants the Chelsea to sell him to Atletico Madrid this summer. Also, he was fined for staying away from the club.

But in an interview with Globoesporte, the Brazilian born star stated that: “My destination has already been decided. I must return to Atletico Madrid.

“It turns out that there is the impasse that Chelsea do not want to release me. But I believe that this situation will be resolved now on my return to Spain.”

The 28-year-old is currently in his native Brazil and has threatened to remain there rather than return to London, and then leave on a free transfer.

Atletico cannot register new players until January because of a FIFA transfer ban and reports in Spain have claimed Costa could play for another La Liga club on loan before joining them.
