The Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Dino Melaye, on Wednesday, threatened President Muhammadu Buhari that the people of Kogi State may seek “alternative measures” if he fails to find a replacement to fill the State’s Ministerial slot that became vacant since the death of James Ocholi (SAN) who died in a ghastly auto-accident.

Ocholi, alongside his wife and son, died in March along the Kaduna-Abuja road after one of the minister’s convoy had a tyre burst.

Melaye, during a Senate plenary, called on the Senate to intervene as the people of Kogi had lost so much due to the vacancy of the ministerial seat

“We, Kogi People have been ostracized; nine months is too long a time to replace a minister. We have lost so much, we don’t want to lose again,” Melaye said.

“Kogi people are not begging. It is our right. If it (replacement) is not done, we will take alternative measures. We have a right to civil disobedience,” he added.

Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, who presided over the plenary and had the same opinion as Melaye, described the vacancy as “unjust and a violation of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria (as amended)”.

He added that the President should take immediate steps to address the issue.
