Drama As DSS Bars EFCC From Arresting Ex DG, Ita Ekpenyong

There was drama at the Abuja residence of the former Director-General of the Department of State Services, Ekpenyong Ita, as men of the DSS prevented operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission from arresting him.

EFCC operatives had arrived at the scene with an arrest warrant but the DSS officials blocked the arrest citing “orders from above” as reason for their action.

It was learnt that the EFCC officials and armed policemen who came to arrest the former DSS boss were over 50.

Ita has been under investigation for his alleged role in the disbursement of the $2.1bn funds meant for arms.

Although the former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (Retd.) and other service chiefs have been arraigned, the DSS has refused to release its own officials for probe.
