DSS Finally Speaks On ‘N21bn Daura Loot’

The Department of State Services (DSS), on Monday, reacted in the negative to reports that N21 billion, alongside other items, was recovered from the residence of its recently sacked Director-General, Mr Lawal Daura.

Reports had emerged, Friday, that the whopping sum and other items such as 400 sophisticated guns and thousands of Permanent Voters Card (PVCs) of non-Nigerians were allegedly found in both the Abuja and Katsina residences of the ex-DG, following investigations.

Daura was last week disgraced out of office after some hood-wearing officials of the DSS besieged the National Assembly and prevented its members from accessing the complex. The incident, which drew widespread condemnations, prompted Acting President Yemi Osinbajo to order the summary dismissal of the agency’s Director-General.

Reacting, however, to some videos on social media purporting unidentified security operatives as offloading from a sack the huge sum recovered from Mr Daura’s residence, the DSS described the videos as “fake”.

The DSS, in a statement issued by one Mr Tony OPUIYO, said: “the Service wishes to inform the public that these videos are false and should be disregarded. So far, no such recovery operations have been undertaken by the EFCC or any other security agency at DSS’ office or residences of the former DG.

Opuiyo said, “There is no doubt that different interests have continued to give varied accounts of the incident of last week at the National Assembly. It may, however, be recalled that the Presidency had pledged to carry out a detailed investigation regarding the alleged National Assembly siege.

“The public is, therefore, advised to exercise restraint in their narration of events and as such, desist from spreading fake news or engaging in activities that may mislead or further cause a breach of the peace as well as preempt the outcome of investigations,” he said.
