Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Plays Nigerian Character In New Movie

2018 seems to be the year for Nigeria in Hollywood as the nation has continued to earn positive recognition from the international movie industry.

First, it was John Boyega in ‘Pacific Rim Uprising’ and now The Rock stars as Davis Okoye in new movie, ‘Rampage’.

The American actor, producer, and retired professional wrestler, Dwayne Johnson also known as The Rock stars in the upcoming action-adventure movie Rampage, directed by Brad Peyton.

In the movie, Dwayne Johnson – Hollywood’s biggest star will be playing a role of a primatologist named Davis Okoye, who is Nigerian by adoption.

He replied to a tweet by a Nigerian man Wale Adetona, explaining how he came about the character.

He said the name Davis Okoye is in honor of the famous NFL player Christian the “Nigerian Nightmare”. His character, Okoye, was adopted by Nigerian parents.

According to the movie: Primatologist Davis Okoye (Johnson), a man who keeps people at a distance, shares an unshakable bond with George, the extraordinarily intelligent, silverback gorilla who has been in his care since birth. But a rogue genetic experiment gone awry mutates this gentle ape into a raging creature of enormous size. To make matters worse, it’s soon discovered there are other similarly altered animals.
