Eagles, Senegal Clash To Hold Despite London Terror Attack – NFF

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has said that the international friendly game between Super Eagles and Teranga Lions of Senegal will go ahead as planned.

The Eagles play their Senegalese counterparts in a much talked about friendly game at the Hive Stadium London on Thursday evening.

Five persons were killed and about 40 injured in London on Wednesday after a car plowed into pedestrians and a suspected Islamist-inspired attacker stabbed a policeman close to Britain’s parliament.

The dead, in what police called a “marauding terrorist attack,” included the assailant and the policeman he stabbed. The other three victims were among those hit by the car as it sped across Westminster Bridge before crashing into railings just outside parliament.

The attacker was shot dead by police, while a number of other people were hurt – some with “catastrophic” injuries.

The incident sent shock waves across the city, with some putting activities on hold, however, the NFF Secretary General Dr. Mohammed Sanusi allayed concerns, saying there was nothing to worry about.

According to him, the attack, which occurred far away from the Crowne Plaza Hotel camp of the Super Eagles.

“I have spoken to NFF officials, who are already with the team in London and they said the attack took place far away from the camp and the stadium where the match will take place. So, there is nothing to worry about,” Sanusi told The Guardian.

Sanusi further pleaded with Nigerians against using the outcome of the game to judge Coach Gernot Rohr.

“The result of the friendlies against Senegal and Burkina Faso would not be used to judge the coach,’’ he added.

The both countries have meet 15 times in the past, with Nigeria winning 8 to Senegal’s 4.
