The acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, may be going to jail soon over his failure to obey court orders.

The EFCC boss had failed to obey an order to set free one Na’im Lawal, whose remand warrant expired in December, 2016.

Lawal, who was arrested by the EFCC on October 14, 2016 for allegedly conspiring to steal government money and obtaining money under false pretence, was acquitted by the court.

Magistrate Okeagu Azubuike, while endorsing form 48 in Abuja, served Magu a “Notice of Consequences of Disobedience to Order of Court” after the EFCC boss failed to release the accused.

“Take Notice that unless you obey the order of court contained in the ruling of the court discharging the expired remand warrant issued by the Honourable Court and ordering the release of the applicant to his freedom on the 1st of December, 2016, you will be guilty of contempt of court and will be liable to committal to prison,” the notice read.
