All your life, you have probably been doing habits that may danger you and your body, but of course you are not aware of them.

After a satisfying meal, many of us just want to lay down for the rest of the night and watch a great movie or TV show. But little do we know that it is actually one of the worse things to be done after eating.

According to experts, these habits are highly dangerous and can put your health at risk.

Here is a list of five things that should not be done immediately after eating your meal.

1. Sleep.

If you go to bed right after having a meal, it is more likely to experience discomfort, bloating and other sleeping patterns because this can cause your stomach to burn during the night.


According to the WebMD, the University of Loannina Medical School conducted a study which proved that people who waited a longer period of time to go to bed after having a meal, had less risk of experiencing a stroke. So, make sure not to eat at least a few hours before going to sleep.

2. Shower

When we shower, our bodies increase blood flow to reach your hands, legs, and body, which then decreases the amount of blood flow to your stomach. This weakens the digestive system, causing it to become inefficient, which can cause stomach pains.

3. Smoking

Many people are aware that smoking is extremely harmful to their health and yet still continue with the terrible habit, and they even do it right after having a meal. It is very important to wait a few hours after having a meal and then smoke a cigarette because cigarettes contain nicotine which can bind to the excess oxygen essential for digestion, thus allowing the body to absorb more carcinogens than usual. According to some studies, smoking right after a meal is equal to smoking 10 cigarettes at once. In addition, this can increase your risk of lung and bowel cancer.



4. Eating fruits.

Well, it is actually best to eat fruit on an empty stomach, because fruits require different enzymes to digest, and the simple sugars in fruit need time to be absorbed completely by the body. With nothing else in your belly, you benefit from all the nutrients, fiber, and simple sugars from fruits. If you wait until after a meal, however, fruit remains in the stomach for an extended period and rots in the gut. This can cause indigestion, heartburn, burping, and other discomforts.

5. Drinking Cold Water

Water is essential for proper digestion. However, you should not drink cold water after a meal. This is because it can lead to clumping of food, which results in poor digestion process.

Every meal is crucial for your overall heath but what you do after a meal is also important for your daily well-being.
