Eid-el-Kabir: Senator Frees 21 Inmates In Sokoto

Sen. Aliyu Wamakko, lawmaker representing Sokoto North Senatorial District, has secured the release of 21 inmates of Sokoto Central Prison, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

Wamakko, in a mini-event on Thursday, was said to have paid N2.1 million fine for the release, as a gesture to mark this year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

The lawmaker, who is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Basic and Secondary Education, was represented at the event by Mr Bashir Jodi, Secretary, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko Free Legal Services.

“The gesture is aimed at enabling the beneficiaries to celebrate the Eid-el-Kabir with their various families; such kind of philanthropic acts are highly encouraged during the first 10 days of Dhul-Hijjah,” he said.

The senator admonished the beneficiaries to steer clear of all acts of crime that would bring them back to jail.

In return, the freed inmates, commended Wamakko and promised to shun crime and all forms of wrongdoing.
