Barcelona manager, Luis Enrique has described star man Lionel Messi as the best player in the history of football after his magnificent performance in the El Classico on Sunday night.

The Argentine wizard struck twice to hand Barcelona a 3-2 win over arch-rivals Real Madrid with his second goal, his 500th for the club, coming in the last minute of stoppage time.

He pulled off an incredible celebration at the Bernabeu. The 29-year-old took off his shirt, ran towards the corner flag and held it upward to the fuming Madrid home crowd.

Casemiro opened the scoring in the 28th minute before Messi equalised 5 minutes later.

Ivan Rakitic sent Barcelona ahead with a long-range effort with less than 20 to go, Sergio Ramos saw red for a dangerous two-footed tackle on Messi before James Rodriguez levelled proceedings in the 86th minute for the home side after smashing home a Marcelo’s cross.

However Barcelona had the last laugh when Messi struck at the death to earn Barcelona a win that sends them level on 75 points with Madrid at the top of the table.

Enrique told beIN Sports, “Messi even makes a difference when he’s at home having dinner.

“He is the best player in the history of the game, and I have seen a lot of football and a lot of videos.

“He makes the difference and it’s a huge pleasure for all Cules to have him identify as one of us.”

“Of course — that’s why he plays for Barca.

“Messi’s our best player. Just imagine, his 500th goal coming here, a winner in the 92nd minute at the Santiago Bernabeu.

“It’s very nice for Leo and it’s nice for everyone associated with Barca.

“He allowed us to have superiority in midfield, we wanted him on ball as often as possible.

“It was more difficult in the middle with lots of bodies in there, but he managed to do it for the first goal. It went as we’d hoped.”

Madrid still have a game in hand but they also have a Champions League campaign to fight. It will go down to the wire, just as this enthralling clásico did.
