The Permanent Secretary, who pointed out that the responsibility of border control and prevention of illegal migrants from coming into Nigeria rest squarely on the NIS, warned that “any failure in that direction will not be tolerated by the government.”

He assured that more working tools be provided to the officers and men at the borders while their welfare should also be improved to encourage them work with diligence and without compromise.

He also charged the Comptroller General to redirect the affairs of the NIS on the path of honour where extant rules and regulations, due process and standard practice are followed, stressing that decisive measures must be taken to address corrupt practices, indiscipline and wrong-doings.

Magaji said, “Other issues that should also be addressed immediately include the alleged excess charges for Nigeria’s standard passport, indiscriminate issuance of official and diplomatic passports and sharp practices associated with numerous immigration services”.
